Bee Mine

I'm sure you're all aware that it was Valentine's day a few days ago and naturally hearts and the color pink have exploded all over Pinterest. But ya know what? I was totally into it. I couldn't help but pin all sorts of heart and love inspired art. I'm such a romance loving sap, so here are my favorite 3 pins from the past week.

I love puns, I really love puns. And this is so artfully done and it doesn't even scream valentine's day.

These are some Valentine's designed by Joni Lay, of the Lay Baby Lay blog. The Dino-rific line just tickles me pink. So much so that I may use this idea next year to make my own valentines!

This is perhaps my favorite. Simple and classic. I want to frame it in some dainty white picture frame to only bring it out around valentine's day.

You're Just Not My Type: Papyrus

My boss has pointed out to myself and others I am a type snob. And you know what? It's true. In today's day and age where anyone can go out and purchase Illustrator and Photoshop and promote themselves as graphic designers I like to remind people that I studied typography for four years. Four years studying letters! So I would like to think I know a little about the difference between well designed fonts and bad ones. So let's talk about a bad one. Papyrus.

By the way, I laughed out loud when I was searching through Avatar subtitle images and saw this one. I thought, "It's perfect!!!!".

If you look up Papyrus in Wikipedia you get the following information. "Papyrus is a widely available typeface designed by Chris Costello, a graphic designer, illustrator, and web designer. Created in 1982, it was hand-drawn over a period of six months by means of calligraphy pen and textured paper. It is often used where an antique look is desired, such as a church circular or coffee shop flyer."

Now I understand why people like the font, it's different, it has texture, it stands out. But it started popping up everywhere. I'll never forget the day when I saw a van drive by with this logo on it.

Lord give me strength because this is HORRIBLE. As stated on Wikipedia this font is meant for church circulars and coffee shop flyers. This fruit arrangement business is neither of those things. It makes the business look so dated, when I think the idea of fruit in the shape of flowers is actually a pretty new and cool idea.

I told my boyfriend 5 years ago when we started dating that I never wanted him to buy me flowers because they don't last long and that I would rather him take me out to dinner or buy me candy, I'd be much happier. So based on that information you would think that Edible Arrangements would be the ideal gift for a lady like me right? Well, when I saw that type face I said we can never support that business with bad design sense. Then one day I saw this...

Hot dang! They updated their logo! I about ran myself off the road when I saw their new logo zoom by on a delivery van! In my design opinion this new font seems to fit their business so much better, it's simple has curved edges and easy to relate to. Congrats edible arrangements, I may actually, possibly one day consider supporting your business.

And unless you've been living under a rock, Papyrus is most well known for being the font for the subtitles in James Cameron's Avatar movie. I loved that movie so much that I can overlook the use of that font. But Papyrus? You're just not my type.

I can see your Halo

No, I'm not talking about Queen B's song but Halo Top Ice Cream. Have you heard of them? Honestly I hadn't until a promoted pin for their ice cream came up on my Pinterest page. Now let's get something straight, I hate promoted pins, advertisers couldn't leave Pinterest alone now could they? And Pinterest clearly couldn't resist that money making opportunity. However, when I saw the sexy branding of this ice cream I was a total sucker and clicked on through to find out who this company was.

Look how cleanly the carton is designed!!! Can you hear the angel's singing because I can! That simple scoop of ice cream and the type, mmm! It's perfection! And come to find out it's actually good for you. Halo Top is low-calorie, high-protein and low sugar. But they only use the best, all-natural ingredients.

Let me be clear, I don't give a hoot if my ice cream is healthy or not, I just want it to taste good. I also love to support companies that take the time (and money) to invest in good branding, because that goes a long way in a saturated market like ice cream. The company Peck & Co designed the branding, you can see more photos here. The logo is clean and simple and I adore the graphics of each flavor and some of the cute patterns behind them.

The ice cream is as simple as the brand, straight and to the point and most of all delicious! Now run (don't walk) to the nearest store that is carrying Halo Top Ice Cream, I found my delicious Lemon Cake flavor at Kroger.

Yes Way Rose

Unless you've been living under a rock (or you don't drink) you've heard all about rose wine. It's pretty much God's gift to wine lovers. I will not pretend to be knowledgable about wine, I used to only drink sweet, dessert wines and I've slowly (over six years) been moving towards dryer wines. Then one day, someone had me try this rose....

and I've been in love ever since. It's the perfect mix of fruit and sweet and dry. Below is a breakdown of different types of rose, because they are not all in fact the same.

And how cute are this rose themed cocktail doodles?!

I found this grouping of different rose brands, two of my top favorites are included: #1 is the Miraval and #2 is Sofia. I also recently discovered Dark Horse brand rose, which is about $8 at my local Kroger. I've never been disappointed by a rose yet.

When I was in Charleston last year a friend and I discovered this local company called Rewined that makes candles scented like wines, and the containers are made out of old wine bottles. I purchased the Rose candle, and it smells AMAZING, which is bittersweet because I want to burn it all the time but I don't want to use it up super quick.

So run over to your local wine store and buy some rose, and pop those bottles!

Favorite Words

I've always been a sucker for quotes that give you all the feels. So much so in fact that I have a board of them on pinterest. Over the years they've evolved from just love quotes to random things about life, creativity and even cooking. Here are a few of my favorites, not only because of how beautiful they are typeset, but because of their message. #timefortacos

Teach me how to Ombré

In case you've been living under a rock theres this color trend called Ombre. It means "shade" in French and is the gradual blending of one color hue to another, from light to dark and it is completely magical. To quote Monet, color is my daylong joy and torment. And Ombre gives me all the feels, so here are some tips on how you can add ombre into your life.
